Prepare for your Newborn Session

At Dulce Vida Studio, we want your experience to be as enjoyable and stress free as possible. We don't want you to feel pressured to bring or prepare anything...we will take of everything! Please review the guide below, and don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Preparation:

Newborns are more cooperative when their bellies are full and bottoms are dry. If you can time feedings so baby eats when we arrive that would be great...ideally if he or she eats while we’re getting set up, they will be ready for a nap by the time we're set and photos will then be more relaxed. Please keep baby awake for 1-2 hours prior to your session. This will also assist in creating a nice sleepy baby for their photos.

If you would like family photos:

We can set aside some time to take photos with all of you (if you are interested, please let us know). Clothing choices should be a solid or soft patterned neutral color so as not to take away from the star of the photo. Black, white, beige, or any neutral soft colors will work. If you have something in mind but are unsure if it will work, you can send us a pic and we'll let you know. Feel free to view our Family Gallery for inspiration as well!

Necessary Items:

We will be bringing a camera (of course!), blankets, props & accessories, lights etc. You will need to provide the baby, their diapers, and an occasional snuggle or feeding to keep baby calm. If there is a specific item you would like baby photographed with, i.e. a toy or special blanket, please have those items ready as well.

Room:

We can take photos in any room in the house, but generally best choices are rooms with at least one window so we can utilize the natural light (We will also bring studio lighting just in case). Living rooms often work well as they are usually the largest room in the home, but we can also shoot in the nursery if you would like his or her environment included in the photos.

Room Preparation:

The room should be warm, generally around 78-82 degrees. Newborns do not yet have the ability to regulate their body temperature and since many of their photos are taken with minimal clothing, the room must be warm in order to keep them comfortable & sleepy.  If it is air conditioned, you should turn it off first thing in the morning. We will also bring a space heater with us to assist in keeping baby cozy & warm.

Most Importantly:

The top priority is to get great photos of your precious new addition! That works best when everyone is calm and relaxed....a lot to ask from sleep deprived parents of a newborn…but rest assured, you, and your little one, are in the best of hands. Many parents like to take advantage of passing their little one off and using the time to take a well-deserved (and often needed) nap...the choice is yours. You are welcome to hang out and observe....or we can take family pics first and then you are free go off and do whatever you choose (nap, laundry, breakfast) while we work with your baby.
